Please forward this invitation to all on your list whom you think will be interested to attend, including friends from the Press/Media.
Dear friends and colleagues,
As you are aware the National Campaign for the Peoples Right to Information (NCPRI) was planning to have its third national convention in Ranchi from the 27th to the 30 th of September 2007. Unfortunately, the venue we had fixed was made unavailable, and the convention had to be postponed. The NCPRI along with many other organizations is now organizing a "National Review of the Right to Information in India" around the same dates.
We write to you on behalf of the NCPRI to specially invite you to the concluding events of the National Review meeting on 2 years of RTI, being organized by NCPRI and other organizations working on issues of transparency and accountability. The events are on the 29th and 30th September (Saturday&Sunday) in New Delhi.
We would be honoured if you joined us on the evening of the 29 th of September at Teen Murti house for a Lecture, and an evening of songs of protest. The event is being organized in collaboration with the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library as part of their week on Gandhiji and Bhagat Singh. Shri Gopal Krishan Gandhi will deliver the keynote address on 'RTI as Satyagraha' from 5:30 pm onwards. The lecture is being presided over by Shri V P Singh, followed by a panel discussion with Shri Prabhash Joshi, Aruna Roy and Prof. Mridula Mukherjee. The panel discussion will be followed by 'Songs of solidarity and protest' by Vinay and Charul, the MKSS team and others. A primer on the Right to Information written by Shekhar Singh and Suchi Pande will also be released the same evening.
The next morning, on Sunday the 30th September, at 9:30 am we will gather at Sanskriti Kendra, Anand Gram, Mehrauli Gurgaon Road, Delhi to discuss the draft of the first citizen's report on the Right to Information Act being brought out by the NCPRI to review two years of implementation of the law. This draft came out of an exercise where groups from over 20 states put together answers on a questionnaire, put the answers together, along with inputs and responses from information commissioners and government officials from different states. The programme on the 30 th will end at five p.m., and your participation will help in enriching the review, and strengthening the campaign in India for a more transparent and accountable information regime.
We look forward to seeing you on the 29th and the 30 th of September 2007.
Thank you & regards,
Shailesh Gandhi Shekhar Singh Aruna Roy Nikhil Dey
